Our Impact
Within a generation of twenty-five years, Kamehameha Schools envisions a thriving lāhui where our learners achieve postsecondary educational success, enabling good life and career choices.
KS’ impact has been far-reaching throughout the pae ʻāina with over 61,000 learner experiences through campus and community-based programs in fiscal year 2019-20. On average, KS spends $400M each year to create educational opportunities for Native Hawaiian learners.
Approximately, 97% of the educational spending is funded by KS’ endowment. The commercial real estate portfolio accounts for 31% of KS’ educational spend. While the portfolio provides the financial resources to support our mission, it also helps to activate communities, grow the local economy, and provide educational opportunities to develop Hawai‘i’s future leaders. Stewards of Pauahi’s Lands
‘Āina, or land, is an important part of the cultural identity and well-being of Native Hawaiians. As the largest private landowner in the state, KS has a great kuleana, to steward our lands for the betterment of the lāhui in perpetuity.
Our Commercial Real Estate Division stewards over 15,400 acres:
- Spanning a variety of industries including hospitality, housing, office, mixed-use, retail, industrial, and recreation, etc.
- In 19 market areas with a diverse group of properties (184 in ground leases and 95 owned, managed and operated by KS)
- Featuring 1,320 tenants statewide (387 ground and 933 space lease)
- Notable retail centers include Windward Mall, SALT at Our Kaka‘ako, Keawe Retail at Our Kakaʻako, Keauhou Shopping Center, Haleʻiwa Store Lots, and Kapālama Center
