Sustainability at Kamehameha Schools

Hānai i ke keiki, ola ka lāhui
Nurture the child and the people thrive

Sustainability is central to a strong Native Hawaiian identity, resilient communities, and a thriving lāhui. Kamehameha Schools (KS) defines sustainability as the optimization of environmental, educational, economic, cultural, and community values through the responsible stewardship of resources to ensure the well-being of Ke Ali‘i Pauahi’s beneficiaries into perpetuity.

As a Native Hawaiian organization, grounded in E Ola!, our people will become local and global servant leaders who are culturally engaged, and play a significant role in creating resilient communities both locally and globally. With our foundations in aloha ‘āina, ‘ike kūpuna and kūpono, we seek to sustain our island home and people in perpetuity.

KS has chosen to organize its sustainability metrics with the Aloha+ Challenge as set forth by the state of Hawai‘i:

Notations align KS’ local-to-global impacts with various sustainability frameworks and initiatives such as the Aloha+ Challenge (A+), United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDG), Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), ʻĀina Aloha Economic Futures, and KS’ Strategic Map 2025 (SM2025).
