-Sharing aloha in Japan-
On a mission to spread a message of peace and aloha with our Moananuiākea cousins in Japan, Kula Ha‘aha‘a’s Kamehameha Schools Children’s Chorus and Kula Ki‘eki‘e’s Hawaiian Ensemble have been sharing songs of unity and hope on a tour that includes performances at the famed district of Ginza in Tokyo, the Kaiyukan Hall in Osaka, and a very poignant presentation at the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park and Museum. Audiences were moved to tears by the cherubic voices and sacred dances that represented Kamehameha and kānaka ‘ōiwi with pride. #imuakamehameha #japan #uaolailokoikealoha

During this year’s Song Contest, our Hōʻike performance follows the journey as Kāne and Kanaloa travel around the islands together, opening up new springs so that there is always fresh water for their ‘awa. ‘Awa plays an important role in formal ceremonies and in social settings where hosts and guests partake together as a gesture of hospitality.
Swipe through to relive the moments of this year’s Hōʻike, where moʻolelo is alive on stage!
