Our Kaka‘ako brings back Keiki Street Festival, a celebration for Hawaiʻi’s youth

Our Kakaʻako will transform three city blocks into a fun, enriching and ʻohana-focused gathering for the second annual Keiki Street Festival on March 16. The free celebration will unfold along Keawe, Auahi and Coral streets, enlivening the Kakaʻako neighborhood with educational, cultural and ʻāina-based booths and activities, live entertainment and a wide assortment of food vendors.

“Keiki Street Festival converts Our Kaka‘ako into an exciting hub for outdoor learning and play, featuring diverse, immersive activities and energetic exploration,” said Pualani Hao, planning and development director at Kamehameha Schools. “Inspired by the legacy of Ke Ali‘i Bernice Pauahi Pākī Bishop, our goal is to offer hands-on experiences that make nature and culture accessible in an urban setting for keiki of all ages. Connecting with ‘āina instills a greater appreciation for our beautiful home and helps keiki have a strong foundation in culture and community.”

Our Kaka‘ako Keiki Street Festival is free to attend, and keiki of all ages and their ‘ohana are welcome. Select activities and attractions will charge a fee to participate. Highlights of the event include:

• Akahi Productions will perform a dynamic, interactive hula performance, designed for keiki.
• Kūlaniākea will provide traditional Hawaiian star navigation and ʻŌlelo Hawaiʻi activities.
• Kamehameha Publishing will present its collection of youth educational materials and resources.
• Nalo Keiki Paniolo’s popular petting zoo features alpacas, baby lambs, mini horses, donkeys, goats and bunnies.
• My Treehouse Club hosts a makua-keiki (parent-child) activity workshop for budding crafters and an interactive show on the main stage.
• Paradise Monarchs provides a guided educational experience in a dreamy butterfly garden.
• HiClimb will lead tips and tricks on the 22-foot inflatable rock climbing wall.
• Alikaleo Park’s Hawai‘i-crafted keiki activewear, made with UPF 40+ fabric, is featured in a special keiki fashion show on the main stage.
• Orangetheory and Sweat + Soul Studio’s dedicated keiki fitness zone and free workout classes. Pre-registration at OurKakaako.com is encouraged as space for the classes is limited.
• A designated bike and scooter zone for keiki on wheels to enjoy safe, car-free streets!
• Workshops led by experienced kumu (educators) sharing valuable ‘ike (knowledge) on various topics.
• Bottles4College will offer activities for keiki to raise awareness about sustainability and its recycling program. In addition, prospective applicants for its college scholarship will be able to film their video essays. Sign up in advance for a filming session here.
• Don’t miss live performances and entertainment all day at the main stage on the corner of Auahi and Coral streets and in Kaloko‘eli Courtyard outside of H Mart Kakaʻako.
• Meaʻai and unique products from more than 50 local small businesses.

Ride-share to the event or park at the SALT at Our Kaka‘ako parking garage on 333 Keawe Street or The Flats at Pu‘unui parking garage on 440 Keawe Street. Additional parking is available at the Waterfront Plaza parking garage on 500 Ala Moana Boulevard and is $3 with validation. Visit Our Kakaʻako’s first aid tent at the corner of Keawe Street and Auahi Street to pick up your Waterfront Plaza validation sticker and to register your keiki at the “Safe Meetup Spot.”
