Hale Maipuna
Punalu‘u, O‘ahu

This local-style elevated house has a breezy, open ground level for parking and gathering with stairs leading to the second-floor living area. There are 4 bedrooms and two baths, with basic kitchen appliances and a central common space. Unfurnished, the space has an indoor-camping vibe with groups bringing their own necessities. Limited cots available upon request.

KS Kahalu‘u Ma Kai

Kahalu‘u: Place of Profound Intelligence

There are seven distinct learning spaces on the grounds of Kahalu‘u Ma Kai. Security maintains the property 24/7. In the center of the property, a comfort station houses toilets, showers and changing rooms. Unlike a public park, site use and visits must be scheduled in advance. More than one site may be requested for larger events. Overnight camping stays are possible.

Hālau ‘Ike
KS Kahalu‘u Ma Kai

Hālau ‘Ike, meaning house of knowledge, is a learning and gathering space located at the center of the property. The 40′x80′ tent sits upon a paepae foundation, with astroturf carpet and looks out over Keawehala Lawn. The space offers a welcoming, place-based setting for connection and learning.

KS Hale Kala‘iokaʻōpua
Punalu‘u, O‘ahu

Hale Kala‘iokaʻōpua, also known as the Mills House, is a roomy split-level, 4-bd, 3bth residence, with an ADA-accessible shower. An open kitchen and common area leads to a long hall with several tables set up for meetings or dining. Largely unfurnished, there is ample space for school groups, cultural workshops and activities. Guests should bring necessities for indoor camping. Limited cots available upon request.

Keawe Alapai
KS Kahalu‘u Ma Kai

Keawe Alapai is the name of a lineal descendant of Kahalu‘u. Here, two 20'x40' tents are connected by a 20'x100' tent in a U-formation. A small grassy area (80'x 40') in the center can serve as an outdoor activity or performance space.

Kalanikai
KS Kahalu‘u Ma Kai

Located at the North end of the property along the waterfront, Kalanikai is an open pavilion with two private bathrooms. Benefitting from the coastal breeze, this location has concrete floors and is hidden from the adjacent Kahalu‘u Beach Park by a hedge.

KS Hālau Maluhia
Ke‘ei, Kona Hema, Hawai‘i

Hālau Maluhia is an open-air pavilion, geared towards Hawaiian culture- and ‘āina-based education. The site offers opportunities for overnight camping, beach showers and outdoor restrooms. There is also a kitchen and grill area. The kahu‘āina of this space provides each group a mālama ‘āina activity to complete during their stay.

Malanui
KS Kahalu‘u Ma Kai

Malanui is named after a caretaker and descendant of Kahalu‘u. This open-air classroom is a 40’x40’ tent shaded by bayans and niu (coconut) trees.

Keawehala
KS Kahalu‘u Ma Kai

Keawehala is a spacious, open grassy lawn ideal for large gatherings and active, hands-on experience. The lawn can serve as an additional space for events at nearby Keawe Alapai and Hālau ‘Ike.

KS Laehala
Keaukaha, Hilo, Hawai‘i

Lae Hala—the pandanus point—is a place of long‑standing cultural and historical importance in the ‘ili of Honohononui. Lae Hala provides space for Hawaiian culture‑based education and activities. Overnight stays are possible.

KS Kahuku Ranch
Ka‘ū, Hawai‘i

Within its 686 acres, restoration takes place alongside active ranching. This site includes space used for agriculture, ‘āina-based education and Hawaiian cultural activities. Groups can engage in mālama ‘āina, helping to cultivate native species in one of the lua ‘ulu (pit crater used for ag).

Keawemua
KS Kahalu‘u Ma Kai

Keawemua offers a distinct setting compared to the flatter Keawehala Lawn. A raised area on the northwest corner of the bowl, naturally functions as a stage, making it well suited for performances and presentations. Close to Kalankai, the Keawemua lawn adds space for larger events at this location.
